Gilded is built around a subject most people walk through without ever looking up: the modern railway station. Chongqing East, Zhengzhou — concourses the size of cathedrals, roof structures that repeat until they stop looking structural, and platforms at night when the lights come on and the whole building turns into a machine for going somewhere. Shot in daylight, at dusk from above, and after dark. These images want a hard surface. Metal prints hold the highlights in a way paper cannot, and the concourse shots in particular come alive on aluminium — the reflections stay reflective. Paper versions are here too, for softer rooms.
